I bought a compound miter saw a few months ago to finish up some molding in our basement. It was on sale…I had additional coupons and gift cards so the saw was pretty much a bargain. After doing the necessary work around the house, I wanted to see what else I could do with having NO woodworking experience other than able to drive a nail and work a drill. Since I have close to 6 acres, and love my wildlife, I decided bird houses would be a safe bet. BUT, since Christmas was around the corner, I decided I needed to create a few gifts first. This was my first attempt and done only by looking at picture, without any plans. It might not have been 100% square but it was promising I could do more.
My cousins both love classical music so I decided to try to come up with a music themed birdhouse/feeder, thus the B&B was born! The top part of the project was to accommodate a small feathered family. The bottom portion provided a tray to either place seed, fruit or suet. I collaged the exterior walls with sheet music and created a marquee to display ownership while using a whimsical way of illustrating the “B&B.”
My next attempt was something I had seen on Pinterest where you use a book to create the roof of the birdhouse. Since another cousin and I enjoy the author Elizabeth Berg, I chose her book titled “The Handmaid and the Carpenter.” It worked perfectly with it’s neutral color and manageable size. I scanned pages of the book that I thought would be attractive to help decorate the exterior walls. I modpodged the pages as I did for the Classic B&B structure. I think she’ll use this inside as a decorative piece than to install it outdoors.

Where’s my birdhouse…Just Kidding…LOL…LOL
